All you need to know about Minecraft! SRSLY. (Basic Functions)

If you are reading this post, we are assuming that you just opened up Minecraft, after recently purchasing it, and you don't know what to do. Heck, you don't even know how to move! Well, let me lay out the basics for you, since Notch (The creator of Minecraft) has so kindly left out this information for you.

FIRST!! You will need to learn how to move around. place your left hand on the keys WASD, with your middle finger on the key W, your ring finger on the key A, and your forefinger on the key D. Your middle finger moves back and forth between W and S, and respectively, these keys let you move forward, left, back and to the right. Next, place your right hand on to the mouse, and move it around a bit. You will notice that if you move the mouse up, you POV (Point of View) will shift up, and if you move it down, it will shift down. If this feels in any way awkward to you, try changing it by pressing ESC (The button in the very top-left hand corner) and clicking "Invert Mouse". Now, this setup is used by everyone, left handed and right handed people alike, so if this feels strange to you, I can't help you there.

NEXT!! Now that you have gained the ability to move around, try it for a bit. But just a bit, we need to move quickly. Now, you may notice that the world is made of blocks, and these blocks are simply to high for you to walk over. to get over one, press the space bar. This allows you to jump! You can only jump once, so, sadly there is no double jump for those really high walls of dirt you want over. But what you can do is mine down the wall of dirt with you fist! (If you haven't noticed the thing in you screen in the bottom-right hand corner, that is you hand.) Walk up to the block that you want and, while looking at the block with you cross-hair (The small white plus in the middle of your screen), begin HOLDING DOWN the left mouse button. A pattern will began to form on the block, and if you wait long enough, the block will will break, giving you access to whatever it is you want, while also gaining one dirt block in your inventory.

MORE IMPORTANT INFORMATION!!
This is your standard Minecraft GUI (with a lot of stone pick axes). Now, I've numbered these for your convenience and now I will explain them 1-6. Your view may be a bit different, as you may have armor if you are playing on a friends computer, or you may be missing 6 if you full screened it, but for the most part it should look similar.
1: This is you cross hair. It will always be in the center of the screen, and it will change from white to black depending on what it is you are looking at. That way you should always be able to see it. If you do not see it, press F1.
2: This is the item in which you are currently holding. If you are holding nothing, you will see a fist instead. If you see neither a fist, nor an item, press F1.
3: These are you hearts, which represent your health bar. Certain types of monsters gives you certain types of damage, while other other things such as fall damage or explosions from TNT depend on your range (How far you've fallen or how close you are to the TNT or creeper.) If you do not see these, press F1.
4: These are you accessible items. By scrolling with you scroll wheel on your mouse, or by pressing any of the top number keys 1-9, you can select an item, and then use it or place it depending on what it is. And of course, if you do not see it, press F1.
5: There is no 5 because I am not wearing armor, but if there were, it would be over the item bar (#4) to the right of the health bar. It would be represented as small white "shirts", and the more you have, the more you are protected. (Note! Armor is not a trade off of health. If you have full diamond armor, and you are hit by something, you will still get hurt!) If you do not see the armor bar, do NOT press anything, for this only means you are not wearing armor.
6: These are the minimize/maximize/close buttons, and these should be showing unless you have fullscreened the game. Now, making the game fullscreen is not a bad thing, however there have been some issues with slower computers in the past that can not handle the game fullscreen and crash, or worse, freeze up the computer. I suggest making sure your computer is a 2006 model or newer. (Built in 2006 or after 2006; many computers can run the game fullscreen if they are before this year, but this is assuming you bought one of the cheapest and newest computers you could find at the time. If you want to run it fullscreen but you do not want to hurt your computer, ask someone who knows the specs of your computer to give their personal opinion.)

LAST BUT NOT LEAST!!
This is your Minecraft inventory. This is what you get when you press I (E in the newer version) and it is where the magic happens! Lets run through it quickly, but first note that having your inventory does not pause the game!
1: All of these slots are for your armor! You move your armor from your inventory to one of these slots, depending on what it is.
1a: Helmet slot. Place a helmet here and it will show up on your character. (Also, you can place pumpkins here, and if you are on a multiplayer server and you hack in a certain block in to your helmet slot, you can get a cape!
1b: Torso slot. This slot is for chest armor.
1c: Leggings slot. This slot is for "pants" armor.
1d: Boots slot. This slot is for "shoe" armor.
2: This is your character. (NOTE: NOT THE DEFAULT CHARACTER!!)  Any armor you place will show up here, on your character. You can change your character's look by Googling "Minecraft Skins" and using one of the sites.
3: Crafting. This is where you can craft a small number of items, but most notably the crafting chest, where you can obtain a bigger grid for bigger things. In these for squares you can make a few simply things like buttons, torches, snow blocks and more.
4: Inventory. This is your main inventory. When you are mining and you pick something up, and you quickslots are all full, then the item will move into here automatically. If these are all full, as well as your quickslots, you will no longer be able to carry any more items, and you will have to put some into some chests.
5: Your quickslots. These are the items that you can access with the 1-9 buttons or your scroll wheel. Move an item from your inventory to one of these 9 quickslots to place it or use it.

LAST NOTES!!
So you have finally learned the basics of Minecraft and you now know how to move around and actually play the game. If you want to learn more, refer to the "All you need to know" series I have on my blog! And move quickly, you don't want to be stuck outside during the night time...
